“When I first got to treatment, I didn’t know what to expect. I wasn’t familiar with the process, and I was afraid. But I attended Anam Cara for the first time, and my mind was blown. I was a theater kid all through school, I loved improv and it was a safe space to express myself. Aisleigh ran a beautiful group where we acted as if we were at a bus stop, but we needed to come up with an excuse to leave when the next person arrived. I remember laughing the whole time, and it was the first time I had truly smiled in a long time. By the end of the group, I knew that I was right where I needed to be. Not only that, I found out that Anam Cara Recovery Arts was every week, so I had something to look forward to. There were also projects where we got to express ourselves artistically. Being an art lover, I was immediately on board. I had lost my interest in creating art when I was in my addiction, but when Sheena came along and we did these projects, it felt like the light had returned to my eyes. I became more comfortable expressing myself and I had finally found my safe space again. So thank you Anam Cara, for everything that you do for people in recovery. You ARE making a difference!”
